7. French pole vaulter's groin collision:
French athlete Anthony Ammirati's Olympic hopes were dashed when he failed to reach 5.70 meters in the pole vault. Ammirati jumped 5.40 meters and 5.60 meters on his first attempts but did not qualify for the final. His third attempt to reach 5.70 meters ended in an unexpected mistake when his groin hit the bar, causing it to fall.
