PALOS VERDES, Calif. — Two high schools on the Palos Verdes Peninsula have been ranked among the best in the country, according to new rankings released Tuesday by U.S. News & World Report.
On the 2024 Best High Schools list, Palos Verdes Peninsula High School was ranked 37th in the state and Palos Verdes High School was ranked 130th.
California ranks seventh among U.S. states and the District of Columbia. Of the 1,652 schools ranked, 121 schools rank in the top 5 percent nationally and 579 schools rank in the top 25 percent.
Each state's performance is based only on the state with the highest percentage of schools in the top 25 percent.Massachusetts once again tops the rankings, followed by Connecticut, New Jersey, Maryland and Florida.
Top high schools have students who score very highly on math, reading and science assessments, and also have underserved students who perform well. High school graduation rates and graduates' college readiness are also measured.
