Stories and crafts
On Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., families can enjoy a story by Kit Mann and an outdoor visit with the Playhouse Arts Wonder Wagon at the Blue Lake Library (111 Greenwood Ave.).
The Wonder Wagon offers fun crafts and play activities for kids of all ages, including ribbon sticks, gin making, giant soap bubbles, animal masks, etc. For more information, contact the Blue Lake Library at 707-668-4207.
Games and puzzles
“Family Games and Puzzle Night” will be held Thursday from 4pm to 6:30pm at the Trinidad Library (380 Janis Court).
The library has a wide selection of games and puzzles for all ages, and participants are encouraged to bring their own favorite games to share, making it a fun experience for the whole family.
Sidewalk Art
The “Chalk it Up for Books Sidewalk Art Event” will be held on Saturday, August 24th from 9am to 1pm in front of the Kim Yerton Library, 370 Loop Road in Hoopa.
To participate in this community art initiative, apply in advance or just show up. The sidewalk will be covered with colorful flowers, patterns, creatures, portraits and organization names. Sponsors of the plaza can paint it themselves or hire an artist to do it. They can request a subject or let the artist paint it for them. Volunteer artists are registered in case sponsors need them. Sponsors' names become part of the plaza.

Wetlands Work Day
The Redwood Region Audubon Society will host “Wiggy Swamp Volunteer Day” on Saturday, Aug. 24, from 9 to 11 a.m.
Volunteers will help restore a portion of the Bay Trail by creating bird-friendly natural habitat and removing invasive plants and trash. The trail portion is located behind Bayshore Mall and volunteers will meet in the parking lot just behind Walmart. The Audubon Society will provide tools, gloves and packaged snacks. Pizza Picnic
350 Humboldt will host a free “Bring a Friend” pizza picnic at Redwood Park picnic area in Arcata on August 25th at 1pm.
Participants are encouraged to bring a side dish as well as family or friends. For more information, call Dan at 707-677-3359.
About Medicare
“Medicare 101. What you need to know,” featuring representatives from the Area 1 Agency for Senior Citizens HICAP program, will be held Aug. 28 from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Eureka Library (1313 Third St.).
This is your chance to learn what you need to know about Medicare. Most people become eligible at age 65 and must make important choices about Medicare. Learn more about when, how (and why) to enroll. Learn about Medicare Parts A, B, C, and D: the benefits, costs, and what you need to know.
If you are unable to attend this workshop, you can always get information from the Area 1 Health Insurance Counseling & Advocacy Program.
