The Dyson Chitosan™ range contains a number of ingredients based on the chitosan molecule. Chitosan is a molecule that may be unfamiliar to the beauty industry. Those who are familiar with it may know it as a shellfish-derived ingredient often used in supplements and certain packaging solutions. Through research, Dyson discovered chitosan derived from oyster mushrooms, which is the key to Dyson's Flexible Hold technology that preserves hair's natural movement. The new products are based on Dyson's Triodetic™ technology, which gives hair flexibility to style a variety of hairstyles without stickiness or breakage. These flexible bonds allow hair to move, bend and hold its style, staying flexible all day, even in humid environments. The result is smoother, shinier and less frizz-free hairstyles.
James Dyson, the company's founder and chief engineer, said: “Other styling products use simple polymers that bind hair fibres together like a glue, but our formula is different. The complex macromolecules used in the Dyson Chitosan™ formula form flexible bonds that support each hair fibre individually, delivering a flexible hold with movement and shine all day long.”
The range includes products for two different hair types: curly and straight.
Pre-styling cream: prepares, sets and nourishes. Use on damp hair. Reduces frizz by up to 50% and leaves hair nourished and soft. Formula transforms from cream to clear serum when spread with hands for even application and a lasting natural feel to the touch. Contains emollients, silicones and oils to reduce frizz and preserve hair's natural shine. This cream is suitable for all hair types and is available in 4 innovative versions: straight, wavy, curly and coil. Each version contains ingredients tailored to different hair types for the best results.
Post-Styling Serum: Conditions, nourishes and shapes hair. Use on dry, styled hair. Reduces frizz by up to 50% and is safe for use on color-treated hair. Suitable for all hair types, sets and shapes hairstyles with flexible, soft hold all day long, adding movement and shine. Hair is instantly nourished for a lustrous finish. Styles stay in place after heat or air drying. Contains hyaluronic acid that acts as a weightless shield at up to 80% relative humidity.
Dyson's research and development didn't stop with formulation. When Dyson engineers looked at distribution systems, they found problems with existing solutions like tubes and bottles, and decided to design an in-house solution to address these issues. Dyson's precision-engineered solution is rigorously tested to ensure every pump dispenses the exact same amount (0.22ml per pump), preventing waste and overuse. What's more, the full-size product is refillable and the packaging is durable and recyclable.
The Dyson Chitosan range is the only formula designed to work with all of Dyson's haircare technologies, regardless of the final style you're aiming for. The products are expected to launch in Israel in 2025.
