NEW YORK – The safest county in the United States is on Long Island, according to U.S. News & World Report rankings released earlier this month.
Nassau County took the No. 1 spot on the top 25 list.
The company analyzed the safety of counties based on crime, injuries, and public safety capabilities. Nassau County received a public safety score of 100 and was notable for its per capita spending on health care and emergency services.

Including Nassau County, a total of eight New York counties ranked in the top 25, more than any other state in the nation.
New York City's northern suburbs ranked high on the list, with Rockland County at No. 3 and Westchester County at No. 6. Putnam County came in eighth.
The safest county within the city is Richmond County, ranked 17th overall, followed by Queens County at 20th and Kings County at 25th.
Suffolk County, which borders Nassau, was named the 22nd safest county in the United States.

The safest county in New Jersey was Bergen County, ranking 9th in the nation. The only other New Jersey county to make the top 25 was Morris County, ranking 23rd.
What other state has the safest counties in America?
Seven Virginia counties made the top 25 list, along with two in Colorado, one in Minnesota, one in California, one in Iowa, one in Texas, one in New Mexico and one in Nebraska.
