American actress, film director and businesswoman Eva Longoria is currently spending a lot of time on the Costa del Sol. She has settled in her home in Marbella and continues to add projects to her work schedule in Spain. Together with María Bravo, she created one of the country's most important charity galas, called Global Gift, which has already spread its influence to many countries to continue the charitable work that was born in the province of Málaga. It is an event not to be missed every summer, and one not to be missed for its hosting of artists who are always ready to raise funds for those who need it most.
What does “Global Gift” mean to you?
Well, for me this celebration is very special because although we started here in Marbella 12 years ago and we are already present in 10 countries, our origins are here, in Casa Ángeles (day centre), where we use the funds we raise to support different therapies for families and children in need.
How did this project begin and what is the most beautiful aspect that has stayed with you over the years?
It was a gift from Maria Bravo, who loves Andalusia and her beloved Marbella. She was my best friend, my comrade, my son's godmother and showed me what a beautiful city it is, not only with beaches, but also with a wide range of options and very supportive people.
What is your favourite thing about Marbella?
Everything. I tell my friends that when I come here there is no rush, I can take it easy, the food is good, I am right on the beach, I can run, I can walk, I can spend the whole day on the beach with my son, I can go shopping… there is so much to experience! Everyone knows its charm, but there is something very ordinary and familiar about Marbella. For me Marbella is home, it is a way of life.
Could we see you settling here?
I still travel with my suitcase from hotel to hotel around the world, but I still spend most of my time here, but this is my home.
Regarding your recent project, “Land of Women” (Maria Sanchez), what does this project mean to you?
I always wanted to act in Spanish, and when I was talking to my friend Ramon Campos about it and I told him I wanted to shoot in Spain, he found a novel called Land of Women, which we adapted into a series.
What was your experience like?
I shot in Catalonia, memorized my lines in Spanish, practiced with my coach… and with such an amazing actress as Carmen Maura! It was shocking! But it was a lot of fun and thankfully I felt out of place in the series. I'm an American, it's my first time in Spain, the mother is crazy, the daughter is angry… so I was perfect for the role (laughs).
What's your next project?
I am currently shooting a show about Spanish cuisine. I have already finished Basque Country, Galicia and Madrid. Now I am on holiday and then I will go to Catalonia, Asturias and Andalusia. Imagine that! A show where I try all the delicious dishes of Spain! I have already shot the Mexican and Italian versions and I am very happy that it is time to come here.
Speaking of Spain and your projects, which Spanish actors and actresses would you like to work with?
Definitely with Miguel Ángel Silvestre. He is a very nice guy. I would love to work with him and he laughed when I told him. And of course with Iván Sánchez. He is a nice guy.
If you could have a soundtrack to your life, what would you choose?
Anything from the 80s will do, and Madonna is always a great choice.
If you could have one wish granted, what would you wish for?
World peace certainly starts with each one of us. Right now I am very worried about the situation in the United States because if Trump comes to power, many problems could arise.
