PORTLAND – Residents of Maine's most rural areas will soon have access to ultra-high-capacity, high-speed broadband technology with the launch of Trailrunner Broadband Internet's first high-speed wireless broadband network. Trailrunner provides critical internet access to Maine's major cities, including its most rural areas. The expanded service will reach customers in eight counties, including Aroostook, Washington, Somerset, Hancock, Franklin, Penobscot, Piscataquis and Oxford.
“Access to reliable cell service and broadband is essential to public safety, economic development and conducting daily life,” said Maine Senate President Troy Jackson. “These technologies have become essential public services, especially in rural states like Maine.”
The existing Trailrunner network utilizes standard 4G LTE cellular technology. Now, Trailrunner has selected Tarana Wireless, the world's first manufacturer of next-generation fixed wireless access, to deliver this new high-speed broadband service that meets and exceeds the FCC's expected minimum broadband performance requirements. Tarana's high-speed broadband solution is built on entirely new technology from previous 4G LTE and 5G non-standalone networks, resulting in an ultra-high-capacity broadband product that is consistently faster and more reliable than traditional 4G. It also offers low latency, so data transfer is near-instantaneous, has advanced security controls built in, and can be deployed very quickly.
“We are proud to continue our commitment to providing the best internet service to the communities we serve, especially rural areas that are largely or underserved,” said Robert Parslow, CEO of TrailRunner Broadband Internet. “This latest technology has already been deployed to several of our customers and we have received overwhelmingly positive feedback. Our goal remains the same: to help consumers have the best broadband experience, whether they use the internet for distance learning, important business communications or movie night with the family. Rural communities have waited long enough, which is why we continue to make private investments. Everyone deserves to be connected to the internet, so they don't have to wait any longer.”
The upgraded Trailrunner network was recently deployed in Dexter and will soon expand, providing unparalleled performance and coverage to thousands of households in eight counties across Maine.
