NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – CSUN athletic director Sean Chin-Farrell has announced that Steven Grech has been promoted to assistant athletic director for health and wellness.
Grech, a graduate of the university, has served as CSUN's assistant athletic director for sports medicine and head athletic trainer since 2005 and will enter his 19th year with Matador Athletics in 2024-25.
“Steve is nationally recognized for his commitment to our student-athletes and the leadership he provides within the department, and this recognition of his work is long overdue,” Chin-Farrell declared. “Steve embodies the best of our Champion core values.”
Mr. Grech will be responsible for leadership in planning and executing the development of a nationally competitive athletics program while ensuring annual operational goals are set and achieved in the functional areas of Sports Medicine, Athletics Performance (Strength and Conditioning), Nutrition, Mental Health Services and Team Physicians.
Additionally, Grech serves as the NCAA Department of Athletics' designated health administrator. In that role, he is the campus's primary liaison with NCAA headquarters and the leader of the Athletics Department's health team. As associate athletics director, Grech serves as the campus liaison with mental health services.
As the leader of Athletics Wellness, he oversees mental health awareness programs and ensures best practices for health and wellness are established and achieved.
Grech is a proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) specialist and is in his ninth season as a National Football League (NFL) certified athletic trainer and concussion spotter for Los Angeles Rams home games.
In addition to his role as associate athletic director for health and wellness, Grech also serves as head athletic trainer for Matador men's basketball.
“I am grateful for the support of Shawn Chinfarrell and Sonia Hahn and the confidence they have in my abilities and in prioritizing the health and well-being of our student-athletes,” Grech said. “I love being a Matador and it is a pleasure working with such great student-athletes, coaches, support staff and administrators every day. I intend to support and enhance the mission of CSUN Athletics by continuing in my new role to do everything in my power to improve the overall health and well-being of our student-athletes.”
