South Korean footballer Hwang Ui-jo has apologized for secretly filming sexual encounters with his partners.
Prosecutors say the 31-year-old attacker filmed sex with two of his partners without their consent on four occasions between June and September 2022.
During his first court appearance in Seoul on Wednesday, Hwang said he was “deeply sorry” for causing a “disappointment.”
The former striker left English club Nottingham Forest last month to join Turkish club Alanyaspor.
The videos came to light after Hwang's sister-in-law shared them on social media last June in an attempt to blackmail him.
She was sentenced to three years in prison in September for blackmail after Hwang sued her.
However, charges against him continued as prosecutors said he filmed the videos illegally.
Prosecutors declined to provide details about the women in the videos to avoid further harm.
“I will not do anything wrong in the future and I will do my best as a footballer,” Hwang told the Seoul court.
“I sincerely apologize to the victims who were affected by my actions, and I am deeply sorry for the disappointment I have caused to all those who cared for me and supported me,” he said. he added.
