Voting is already underway in the village of Dixville Notch in New Hampshire. This town is traditionally the first in the United States to vote. All six residents cast their votes just after midnight local time (6am Polish time in the editorial) and the results were announced immediately.
Dixville Notch voters (four of whom are registered as Republicans and two are registered as independent voters) were evenly divided among the presidential candidates, but five of them were He voted for the state's Republican gubernatorial candidate, Kelly Ayotte.
In 2020, all five of the town's then-electors (only one was Republican at the time) voted for Joe Biden.

The tradition of voting after midnight in New Hampshire dates back to 1948 and began in Hart's Location, a mountain town with fewer than 70 residents. Dixville Notch, which has held night elections since 1960, has an official population of six, and Millfield, another town that once participated in the tradition, has a population of 25. This year, the only such election was held in Dixville Notch.
