Ukrainian People's Deputy Yevchen Shevchenko is accused of high treason. Although his name has not been officially released, security sources at BBC Ukraine confirmed it was him.
As the portal highlighted, the politician is known for controversial statements with pro-Russian and pro-Belarus overtones. Even before Russia began to step up its attacks on Ukraine, he had been expelled from the party founded by Servant of the People Volodymyr Zelensky. This allegedly happened after a meeting with Alexander Lukashenko.

In recent weeks, the politician is said to have called for negotiations with Putin and made a number of critical statements against the country's leadership and the president.
Ukrainian security services now have evidence that he was involved in disinformation and subversive activities benefiting Russia. As was emphasized, Shevchenko was to disseminate propaganda information about events in Ukraine, its military, and measures taken in foreign policy.

“In order to 'dispel' the Kremlin's rhetoric, he actively used YouTube and Telegram channels, as well as broadcasts in Ukrainian and hostile media,” the website added.
At the same time, this information indicated that Shevchenko used his position to conduct business in Belarus. For all these charges, known as high treason, he could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.
