A group of Los Angeles County residents have been arrested for committing insurance fraud by wearing special costumes in order to obtain compensation. The investigation, codenamed Operation Bear Claw, found that three of the four people involved in the incident had since made similar claims. These people claimed that the damage to their cars was caused by a real bear, but the California Department of Insurance says it was a person wearing a bear costume.

The suspects allege the bear broke into a 2010 Rolls Royce Ghost in Lake Arrowhead on January 28 and caused significant damage. As “evidence,” they provided the insurance company with footage that appeared to show the bear rummaging through the car. During the investigation, the video was analyzed and it was determined that the alleged bear was actually a person wearing a bear costume.
In addition, investigators discovered two additional insurance claims filed by the suspect with two different companies. They had the same date, description of the damage, and location where the destruction occurred. Each of these allegations involves two different vehicles, a 2015 Mercedes G63 AMG and a 2022 Mercedes E350, and in each case the suspects were dressed in bear costumes and the animals were Falsely led the insurance company to believe that the vehicle was also damaged. Once again, people provided “film evidence” of wild animal behavior.
California. Four people were arrested. They faked a bear attack on a car
To rule out the possibility that the videos actually captured a bear attack, the California Department of Health asked biologists from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to analyze the three videos in question. Experts also said there was no doubt that the attack was carried out by a man disguised as a bear. Investigators then went to the suspect's home with a search warrant and found a teddy bear costume there.
The agency said the insurance company was defrauded of $141,839 (578,946 zlotys) by fraudsters dressed in bear costumes. Ultimately, the suspects Ruben Tamrazian (26 years old), Ararat Chirkinian (39 years old), Vahe Muradkanyan (32 years old), and Alfiya Zuckerman (39 years old) were charged with insurance fraud and conspiracy.
