The British newspaper Financial Times wrote on Saturday, relying on military intelligence in Kiev, that North Korea supplies Russia with long-range artillery systems. He said that the weapons are being sent to Russia's Kursk region, where Russian forces are fighting with the support of North Korean forces.
These include approximately 50 M1989 Koksan self-propelled howitzers with a caliber of 170 mm and 20 modern multiple missile systems based on the Soviet BM-27 Uragan design, which can fire both standard and guided missiles.
Ukrainian military intelligence confirmed the existence of this equipment after photos of North Korean howitzers were circulated on the Internet in recent days. They were published, among others, by Russian pro-war channels on Telegram.
The Ukrainian military website “Militarny” wrote that Korean equipment was spotted on the railway platform in the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk.
According to the UNIAN news agency, Russia has reached out to North Korea for help due to the reduction of artillery reserves in the Russian army.

The main role of the Kim regime
“North Korea has already played a key role in providing millions of artillery rounds to the Russian military in 2023,” the Financial Times notes. “In return, Moscow gave Pyongyang military technology to develop North Korea's missile programs,” a senior Ukrainian official said, referring to the newspaper.
“The transfers come at a critical moment when the Ukrainian and Russian armies are fighting ahead of the presidency of Donald Trump, who has promised to quickly end the three-year war,” writes the British newspaper.
This year, North Korea also backed Russia by sending more than 12,000 troops to help fight Ukraine, which, according to a British newspaper, “has made the war in Ukraine even more international.”
