Republican Sen. Markwayne Mullin called on the House of Representatives to release a previously unreleased report on Florida state representative Matt Getz to the Senate. Gaetz is Donald Trump's nominee for the next Attorney General of the United States. The House Ethics Committee investigated reports of his sexual misconduct involving a 17-year-old girl.
If Getz is ultimately confirmed by the Senate, he will lead the prosecution that last year investigated reports of his sex crimes involving an underage girl. But the prosecutor's office decided not to press charges against him.

Gaetz is also scheduled to appear before the House Ethics Committee. Gaetz resigned from Congress after Trump nominated him for attorney general. This automatically ended the procedure before the ethics committee, which had already ended.
What about the commission report? Address of the senator
But Republican Sen. Markwayne Mullin is demanding that the committee's report on Gaetz — despite his departure from the chamber — go to the Senate.
“The Senate should have access to it,” Mullin said. In response to the question whether the content of the report will be made available to the public, he said that “it is part of the ongoing negotiations”.
Mullin previously described Gaetz as unprincipled and said Sunday that “Matt Gaetz's story is important.” He also noted that he has not yet decided whether to support Donald Trump's chosen candidate or not. – I will give him the same opportunity as I give to everyone else, – emphasized the Congress.
Senators of the Democratic party oppose the election of Getz. – The Senate has a constitutional role. We act as a consultant. The president-elect should support his choice, but that can't happen with people who don't have the necessary qualifications or qualities to fill such an important position, Democratic Sen. Chris Coons said on Fox News Sunday.

Supporter of the MAGA movement
Gaetz is a 42-year-old congressman from Florida who is one of the main supporters of the MAGA movement (short for “Make America Great Again” – ed.). He is also known for his controversial statements. He was one of the main authors of the overthrow of the Republican speaker of the House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, with the votes of extremists in 2023. McCarthy claimed it was compensation for recusing himself from a House Ethics Committee investigation into allegations he paid for sex with an underage girl.
“He's not allowed to come within 100 yards of the school,” McCarthy joked during a briefing at the Republican convention in Milwaukee in July.
Although the prosecutors investigating this case have not decided to press charges against the politician, the ethics committee's investigation has not yet been closed.

The choice of Gaetz, who is also one of the biggest opponents of aid to Ukraine, surprised some politicians of the party in the Congress. Moderate Republican Sen. Susan Collins said she was “surprised” by Gaetz's nomination and that she would have “a lot of questions” about it. Another Republican senator, Lisa Murkowski, said it was not a serious candidate, and Congressman Don Bacon of Nebraska said he “doesn't have a good explanation.”
