Slovakia welcomed Joe Biden's move, albeit with some displeasure. Media reported that the decision of the US President, who is ending his term in office, has given Ukraine permission to use ATACMS long-range weapons against Russia.
According to Robert Fico, such actions lead to “heightening of tensions”. Fico called Biden's move “unprecedented.”
This is a “decision that dashes hopes of starting peace negotiations and ending mutual killings of Slavs in Ukraine,” the Slovak prime minister said in a statement quoted by Reuters.
War in Ukraine. The US agrees to attack deep into Russia. Criticizing Robert Fico
Information about the US president's consent to the use of long-range weapons against Moscow was first reported by the New York Times on Sunday. The paper cited an unnamed Biden administration official.
The paper noted that Joe Biden's decision was a “major change” in US policy. Especially in the context of the announcement by representatives of the new administration of Donald Trump, who spoke about limiting aid to Kiev.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy responded to reports from abroad: “The blow will not be carried out in words. Such things will not be announced. The missile will speak for itself.”
