At least eight people were killed when Typhoon Man-i hit the Philippines. Last weekend, this element hit the ground twice, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. In many areas, a major clean-up and loss assessment has begun. Local authorities have appealed for help to the affected residents.
Man-yi was the sixth typhoon to hit the Philippines in recent weeks. Previously, this country was affected by tropical storms: Trami, Insin, Usagi, Toraji and Kongrei.
Man-yi first made landfall on Catanduanes Island on Saturday evening, then circled the east coast of Luzon and reached Aurora province on Sunday. The element, which is locally called Pepito, brought heavy rains and strong winds, the intensity of which exceeded 300 km/h.
Philippine authorities reported that at least eight people were killed and several were injured. In many areas, a major clean-up and loss assessment has begun.

The powerful typhoon caused widespread destruction in several areas of the Philippines. Residents of Catanduanes Island will face power outages for up to a month.
“Most of the houses made of light materials were destroyed, and some of the houses made of concrete had their roofs, doors and windows destroyed,” Camilla Jianan told AFP.
In the province of Isabela on the island of Luzon, heavy floods partially submerged the town of Ilagan. In the coastal town of Baler, Aurora, crews were clearing fallen trees and debris that blocked roads. For its part, Camarines Provincial authorities have appealed for additional assistance for residents who are having trouble accessing water and cellular networks.

According to the Philippine Civil Defense Office, Man-y, among other tropical cyclones, destroyed about 8,000 houses and forced about 700,000 people to leave their homes. About 100 cities had problems with electricity supply.
Some areas have been repeatedly hit by powerful storms in recent weeks, deepening the scale of the devastation.
– They didn't recover from the previous disasters when the super typhoon hit (…) It was one disaster after another, – Gianan added.
In recent weeks, more than 160 people have died due to the impact of six typhoons. The Philippines experiences about 20 tropical storms every year.
