Simon Holovnia, Speaker of the Seimas, said that the law on freezing the price of electricity may be adopted next Wednesday. He added that the vote on the document on Christmas Eve can be held on the same day.
The Sejm session started on Tuesday and was supposed to end on Friday. However, Marshal Holounia announced during the briefing that it will continue on Wednesday next week.
Cooling of energy prices
On Tuesday, the government is due to discuss a draft amendment to the Law on the Protection of Energy Consumers, drafted by the Ministry of Climate. In this context, Shimon Holounia expressed hope that the Council of Ministers will adopt the draft law on freezing energy prices on Tuesday.
– We want to complete the first reading of this law in this part of the Sejm (this week) and finalize it and adopt it on Wednesday (next), – Holounia said.
The goal of the project of the Ministry of Environmental Protection is to introduce protective measures for households in 2025, thanks to which consumers will not experience a significant increase in electricity bills.
The project envisages that the maximum amount of electricity for households in the amount of 500 PLN/MWh will also be maintained in 2025. The maximum cost limit for the proposed solution is more than PLN 5.4 billion.
On Christmas Eve
The Marshal of the Sejm also spoke at a press conference on Tuesday about the draft law on free Christmas holidays. As he said, a very extensive and large-scale discussion was held.
– Voices of the Deputy Chairman of the Senate, Magdalena Biekhat, as well as other participants of the negotiations, were heard that the “left” might agree to put such a decision on the table, that we, yes, will make a decision. free Christmas Eve, but with vacatio legis a year, and therefore from next year, because at this point it causes too much chaos in the economy and in life, which is already in order, – stressed the marshal.
He added that he will ask the chairmen of the parliamentary committees to “address this issue by next Wednesday”. – So that we can add the vote on Christmas Eve to next Wednesday's agenda, so that the report of the two committees will be on this matter, – Holounia added.
At the beginning of November, the Seimas decided to hand over the draft law of the parliament on establishing Christmas Eve as a day off for further work to two parliamentary committees. Previously, the members of the parliament rejected the proposal to immediately proceed to the second reading of the bill.
The left project proposed to set December 24 as a holiday. It is intended that all employees, including employees of trade institutions, which currently, according to the law on the restriction of trade on Sundays and holidays, will be closed until 2 p.m. on working days.
