From January 2025, pensioners and disabled pensioners can apply for widow's pension, the Social Insurance Institution informs.
Widow's pension can be received by women who are at least 60 years old and men who are over 65 years old, who remained married until the day of their spouse's death, and after the death of their spouse, they have the right to receive widow's pension. not earlier than the age of 55 (women) and 60 (men).
If a widow or widower does not apply for a salary pension because the spouse's pension is less favorable, they should submit an application on the ERR form this year. In addition, by June 30, 2025, you must submit an application to establish the convergence of benefits with the salary pension using the ERWD form.
– This decree accelerates the review of the request to combine the payment of both benefits in 2025 – ZUS said.
Such a situation applies to persons who receive a salary pension who did not apply for the appointment of a pension.
ZUS spokesperson noted that if a person applies for a widow's pension next year and does not have the established right to at least two pension and disability benefits, including a survivor's pension after a deceased spouse, then ZUS will refuse to pay him. benefit due to the lack of rights to the second benefit.
Increase in deadlines
Next year, widows and widowers will have a choice: receive a full pension from the wage earner and 15 percent. self-interest or vice versa. From January 1, 2027, the second allowance will be increased from 15 to 25 percent. – indicated ZUS.
This option will also be available to people who are entitled to an allowance or pre-retirement allowance, paid pension, teacher's allowance or education pension.
The total amount of benefits cannot exceed three times the minimum pension, which is currently PLN 5342.88 (3 times PLN 1780.96). This limitation also includes benefits paid by foreign institutions and other than lump sum benefits and allowances provided under the Act or separate regulations. If the amount of the pension exceeds three times, the allowance will be reduced by the excess amount.
When will the application for widow's pension be opened?
An application for a widow's pension can be submitted from January 1, 2025, and the right to this benefit is granted from the month of submission of the application, but not earlier than July 1, 2025 – indicated by ZUS.
If applications are submitted by June 30, 2025, the right to widow's pension will be available from July 1, 2025. Persons who have already established the right to a salaried pension and personal pension (for example, old-age pension). it is not necessary to attach any documents to the application for establishing a pension with a pension from the salary.
