– We want the Prime Minister to come out and say that he supports our demands and that he intends to declare their implementation now, not in the future. Only then can the current part of the protests be brought to an end, says Sylwia Ziental, one of Last Generation's spokespeople.
The last generation demands immediate implementation of two demands: 100 percent transfer. Funding from the construction of new motorways and trunk roads for local and regional rail and bus connections from 2025 onwards and from the introduction of a PLN 50 monthly ticket for regional transport across the country.
The last generation: Every day's delay leads us in a terrible direction
– First, we have presented two demands that are easy to meet in order to take a positive step towards change. Many say these are trivial demands, but you have to start somewhere, and transport is one of the sectors with the fastest growing greenhouse gas emissions in Poland, says Giental he says.
– If those in power want to start getting serious about the climate, meeting our two demands is the first step. We have known about the climate crisis since 1997, but until now there has been no change in the right direction. There are many milestones that the government needs to achieve and each day of delays is taking us in a dire direction, he added.
Activists say they want to “remind the government that we cannot ignore climate issues.” – We don't yet know what the next request will be. Ziental said he did not expect such an explosion of interest after the current campaign.
The last generation: You don't need to be liked.
In recent days, activists have increasingly organized minute-long blockades of downtown areas in the capital. After each action, social media is filled with recordings and comments of angry drivers highlighting that the actions of the last generation hinder the work of emergency services and pose a threat to life and health. – For drivers, 10 minutes of traffic is nothing compared to what we want to achieve. It means that everyone will have the choice to commute to work, to the hospital or daycare, and public transport will become a true alternative to the car. If most people switched to public transport, there would be no traffic jams – Ziental responds to complaints.
As he points out, the last generation is protesting peacefully. – The aggression that exists is directed at us. There is research showing that support for a particular cause is not necessary to gain popularity in society. We don't need to be liked, we just want to attract people's attention, but above all the government's interest is to draw attention to the fact that the battle has already begun a long time ago and they overslept – Sylvia Ziental tells us.

– We focus on meeting demand, not supporting society. Some groups receive support but have no agency. What worries us most is that in a few years' time we will not be able to say that we have done nothing in the fight to make our planet and our countries livable for life – he emphasized. Masu.
We asked whether activists realized that this form of protest could lead to tragedy, both for themselves and for those standing in traffic jams. – We take into account the possibility of tragedies happening, and we have already encountered acts of violence by drivers, so the fact that we go out makes us aware of what is happening around us and how we “I'm very afraid of what we'll end up living in,” he says.
On Wednesday, the last generation turned to the prime minister after Warsaw's Vysłostrada was locked down again. “We are planning a meeting next week at noon on Wednesday, December 11th. We will be standing in front of the prime minister's office. There is still a chance for the current government to show that it treats its people humanely,” they said. announced. on social media.
