The US National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a severe snow warning for parts of Ohio, western New York and Pennsylvania. The warnings are scheduled to remain in effect until Friday.
More than one meter of snow is falling
NSW forecasters have more than 60cm of snow in northwestern Pennsylvania. The Lake Erie area could add 46 cm.
AccuWeather forecasters warn that the snow could cause power outages and travel disruptions. – The weather in the Northeast will begin to calm down over the weekend, AccuWeather Meteorologist Jeff Nordin said.
What is the effect of the lake?
The lake effect is a phenomenon that occurs when cold air masses flow over relatively warm water. The heat and humidity of the reservoirs are transferred to the atmosphere, and the hot air quickly rises and cools, creating clouds. This phenomenon is often accompanied by snow storms.
