Those arrested have been accused of possessing amulets, witchcraft and cruelty to animals. Various charms, including a live chameleon, were recovered from the suspects.
The Metropolitan Police, Zambia's anti-terrorist units and the Immigration Department were involved in the investigation and prevention of this assassination attempt.

Based on the preliminary investigation, it has been established that the suspects, one of whom is a Mozambican national, are witches hired by Nelson Banda, the younger brother of Emmanuel Jay Banda, a politician of the opposition party of the president and his personal enemy. who fled to Zimbabwe in October.
Excerpts of the news disclosed by the police representative show that “this plot involved the use of magic to harm the president”, for which the suspects received 2 million Zambian kwachas, that is, more than 70 thousand dollars.
The suspects are currently in police custody and will appear in a Lusaka court soon. They face at least 10 years in prison.
