At a press conference on Monday, the president-elect expressed frustration at having to wait until after his inauguration to meet with Putin. At the same time, he predicted that ending the war in Ukraine would take up to six months, although during the campaign he had promised to end it within 24 hours before he was formally sworn in.

Some Ukrainian and U.S. commentators also noted that President Trump on Monday expressed understanding of Russia’s “sentiments” and concerns about Ukraine’s possible NATO membership.
