The location data was allegedly stolen from the Norwegian-American company Gravy Analytics. She collected them from applications installed on her phone. In 2024, the US Federal Trade Commission accused the company of illegally trading in mobile phone users’ data, including information about personal relationships, pregnancies, and political and religious views.
In December, Reuters reported that Gravy Analytics had reached a settlement with President Joe Biden’s administration that would prohibit it from collecting location data.
Neither NRK nor Reuters reporters received comment from Gravy Analytics regarding the disclosed data theft.
