British Prime Minister Keir Strummer arrived in Kyiv on Thursday and met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
According to Reuters, Ukraine has signed a 100-year partnership agreement with the UK. The agreement is said to be “groundbreaking” as it deepens security and strengthens ties between the two countries. UK Head of Government Keir Starmer announced the delivery of a new air defense system.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer arrived in Kiev on Thursday. During a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, an agreement on a “100-year partnership” between the two countries was signed.

– Today is a truly historic day, and relations between our countries are closer than ever, said Mr. Zelensky.
According to CNN, the signed treaties cover areas such as defence, science, energy and trade.
In response, Mr Starmer announced that the UK would provide Ukraine with a new mobile air defense system.

“We will work with Ukraine to take sufficient measures to guarantee its security,” he said.
This is Starmer’s first visit to Ukraine since taking office in July. As head of the British government, he met with Zelensky twice in London. He had previously visited the country, which is fighting for its survival in 2023, when he was the opposition leader.

The visit comes four days before Donald Trump is sworn in as US president. CNN notes that shortly before the new tenant moved into the White House, there was a “wave of diplomatic activity” directed at Kiev authorities from major European capitals.
Also on Thursday, the head of the Italian defense ministry appeared in the Ukrainian capital, and the head of the German defense ministry also visited two days earlier. French President Emmanuel Macron also recently called Zelenskiy.
