The BBC notes that fewer people took part in Saturday’s public march in Washington than in previous editions. Organizers expected 50,000 people to attend, but about five thousand demonstrators showed up. The Associated Press reported that the marchers chanted slogans related to women’s rights, the rights of LGBT people, the rights of immigrants, as well as the climate and the defense of democracy.
One of the protesters told the BBC that he came to show his support for the existence of abortion. “I’m really sad that our country is relying on a president who has already let us down once,” he said.
