Style Bender goes back to basics
With less than two weeks to go until his expected return, Adesanya spoke to New Zealand's The Rock radio station about his rigorous preparation for the fight in Perth, stressing that he is going back to basics and focusing on fundamental techniques as the core of his training.
“We've been working on some things, bringing back some old stuff, it's all about the basics, going back to the basics. No matter how much you work on the basics, it's never enough. I'm going to give my best in this fight,” Adesanya said.
The fan-favorite middleweight boxer has also made some major changes to his lifestyle and training regimen. Now 35, Adesanya has adopted a healthier lifestyle, including shunning fast food in an effort to eat better and live longer.
“This is the first camp I've had where I've had an actual 'preseason' and deload week. All of my meals are made specifically for me. I'm not just eating Uber Eats every meal, I'm eating properly,” Adesanya explained.
Adesanya said this was the first time he felt like a “real athlete” in terms of his diet and lifestyle, despite having 12 title fights under his belt, and acknowledged the adjustments he needed to make as he aims to reach his full potential before retiring.
“By the time I'm done with this I really want to make sure I've done everything to the best of my ability and I know I've done everything I could,” Adesanya said.
Adesanya's revamped approach, which has included training with submission specialist Demian Maia, will be a crucial advantage when he fights du Plessis.
