Wake Forest University's Healthy Exercise and Lifestyles Program (HELPS) is accepting applications for the Therapeutic Lifestyle Change program for the Fall 2024 semester.
Therapeutic Lifestyle Change is a 12-week program offered at no cost to full-time, permanent employees at Wake Forest University. The program is designed to help and support individuals who want to make healthy changes but don't know where to start.
Therapeutic lifestyle change is a medically guided and expert-supervised program that utilizes exercise and education to help develop a healthy, active lifestyle.
Beginning September 11th, in-person group sessions will be held every Wednesday from 11:15am to 12:15pm.
Program Highlights:
Individualized assessment and follow-up. Physical activity level is assessed at admission. This information is used to determine and define the amount of physical activity needed to promote a healthy, active lifestyle. Dietary intake at admission is assessed via a computer-analyzed food record. Specific calorie, nutrient and food group modifications are identified. Body composition (including bone mineral density measurement) at admission. This is assessed via a DXA scan. Optional supervised exercise sessions in the Health and Exercise Science Clinical Research Center's conveniently located exercise facility. Weekly small group sessions are held in-person, teaching behavioral strategies for managing physical activity and nutrition.
