(WRGB) – “No testing required” was a popular movement a few years ago, but testing requirements are back again for admission to many top schools.
The SAT has already gone fully digital, and the ACT college entrance test will soon follow suit.
A blog post from ACT's CEO explained how the exam is “evolving,” which comes after years of declining scores.
Changes include 44 fewer questions than before and a reduction in exam time from approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes to approximately 2 hours and 5 minutes.
The number of math answer choices has been reduced from five to four. The difference with the SAT is that you can choose to take the test online or “old-fashioned” with paper and pencil.
Additionally, Prep Expert CEO Dr. Shaan Patel said students will have the choice of whether or not they want to take certain sections of the ACT.
“The essay and science section are actually now optional, which is really interesting because the ACT has historically been known for that famous ACT science section, so that's going to be optional,” Dr. Patel told CBS 6.
This new, “evolved” ACT will launch with online testing in April 2025. In September 2025, the new format will go into effect regardless of testing mode.
