President Andrze Duda celebrated the 85th anniversary of the Katin massacre in Krakow, where he appeared at the age of 14 in the square of Adam Stadziski at St. Izi’s Church in the old town.

They managed to kill them, but they couldn’t tear them from the memories of our country and their extraordinary heroic attitude, the fact that they didn’t break, did not go to the cooperation that Paul and the patriots were proud of, they were proud to the last moments of life – he said – he said.
– Today we are talking about historical memory. We paid this truth 15 years ago. Fifteen years ago, a Polish delegation led by President Lesz Kacheski and his wife died on the way to Katin. Polish blood was once again immersed in Katin’s land – he reminded him.

Katyn Massacre’s 85th anniversary

According to an order from Soviet authorities signed by Stalin on March 5, 1940, the NKVD killed about 22,000 Polish citizens, including Polish Army, police officers, border guards, prison officials and civilians belonging to the shared elite of Second Poland.
The crime was revealed on April 13, 1943. For many years, Soviet Russian authorities denied the blame for this genocide and transferred guilt to the third German reich.
The Soviet Union did not acknowledge the Katin Massacre until April 13, 1990. At the time, a statement from the Tass government agency officially confirmed that prisoners in the Polish War had been shot and killed by the NKVD in the spring of 1940. NKVD Commissioner Evangelical Belia and his deputy Miel Croix were shown guilty. The Russians expressed deep regret in connection with Katin’s tragedy, calling it “one of the difficult crimes of Stalinism.”
