Austrian plumber discovers box of gold coins while renovating his basement
While renovating a basement in Vienna, a plumber discovered an incredible treasure. The man decided to find out what was hidden at the end of the rope sticking out of the concrete. In this way, he got into a box containing 30 kilograms of gold coins. Some of that wealth may end up in his hands.
An unsuspecting renovation team has been chipping away at the walls of an old villa in Vienna's Penzing district for several days. The treasure is almost discovered by one of the employees who notices the mysterious rope but decides to ignore it.
However, a plumber who later appeared on the scene became interested in the rope. The installer finally decided to see what was inside, but it turned out to be a difficult task.

Eventually, using the right tools, he finds a chest hidden under the concrete. When he opened it, he found a gold coin with a portrait of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on it.

According to the discoverer, the treasure weighed about 30 kilograms. The Austrian portal Heute estimates its value at around 2.3 million euros. The property was probably hidden by the property owner during World War II.
– I really can't believe something like this. I have been working on construction sites since I was 15 years old. Sometimes you can find a few coins, and such finds are amazing – the happy finder commented in the conversation.

The plumber has a chance to own half of the treasure. Under Austrian law, the discoverer and the landowner must share equally in the value of the find.
However, any accidental archaeological discoveries must be immediately reported to the relevant authorities, who in turn inform the Federal Monuments Service, which has the final say on the treasure's future fate.
