I will present evidence that the free Christmas idea is a bad solution. Polish Finance Minister Andrzej Domanski said on Wednesday that it would cost PLN 4 billion for the Polish economy and PLN 2.3 billion for the state budget. This is an unnecessary step, he added.
On Wednesday, Finance Minister Andrzej Domanski was asked on ZET radio if the left's idea of a day off on Christmas Eve was too expensive for the budget. “I think so,” Domansky said.
– We at the Ministry of Finance have calculated that the costs for the economy will be approximately 4 billion PLON and for the budget 2.3 billion PLON, – he said. – I will bring evidence that this is a bad solution, – stressed Domansky. In his opinion, this idea is an unnecessary step, he added.
Domanski is against the weekend on Christmas Eve
When asked if Poles would not be disappointed by the absence of Christmas Eve, he noted that “millions of Poles may also be disappointed if they cannot shop on this day. (…) Christmas Eve was never a day. shut up,” he noted. “I haven't talked to the prime minister about it yet. It's my duty to provide estimates of how much such changes will cost,” concluded the finance minister.
At the beginning of November, the first reading of the bill prepared by the left deputies was held in the Seimas. They want Christmas to be a holiday this year. Therefore, on behalf of the authors of the draft law, Katarzin Ueberhan (left) proposed to immediately proceed to the second reading of the draft law and submit it to the committee.
One day off on Christmas Eve costs the economy PLN 4 billion
However, the Sejm decided to refer the bill of parliament on setting the Christmas holiday to two parliamentary committees – the Committee on Social and Family Policy and the Committee on Economy and Development – for further work.
The project proposes to establish a holiday on December 24. It is intended that all employees, including employees of trade institutions, for whom – according to the law on the restriction of trade on Sundays and holidays – Christmas Eve is a working day until 2 p.m.
