Several of Binghamton University's graduate programs ranked highly on this year's prestigious U.S. News & World Report list of Best Graduate Schools.
Highlights this year include the recognition of programs in business and pharmacy in the top 100, as well as three programs in the School of Community and Public Policy.
“We are pleased to see so many of Binghamton University's graduate programs on this prestigious list,” said President Harvey Stenger. “These are top-tier programs that provide students with the knowledge and preparation they need to become experts in their fields, and this ranking confirms that.”
US News ranks graduate programs each year based on fields such as business, education, law, and nursing, with more than 80 programs ranked this year. The rankings are based on statistical surveys of the programs and reputation surveys sent to academics and professionals. Some programs are ranked using their own methodology; for example, the business rankings compare full-time MBA programs on “career placement success, student excellence, and qualitative evaluation by experts.”
This year's rankings in 12 areas are based on surveys of academic leaders from peer institutions. Highlights from this year's rankings include:
The School of Community and Public Policy's public administration program jumped from 72nd to 65th. Social Work ranked 77th and Education ranked 130th. The School of Management jumped from 104th to 90th in business, entering the top 100 for the first time. The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences tied for 95th in pharmacy. The Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science's computer science program jumped from 105th to 96th. The Decker School of Nursing and Health Sciences ranked 102nd in nursing and 159th in occupational therapy.
“The selection of several programs across a variety of disciplines on this year's list speaks to the strength of our graduate programs and the breadth of knowledge the university has to offer,” said President Donald Hall. “We are poised to prepare tomorrow's health care workers, scientists, engineers and leaders across society.”
