According to Chinese police, the attack occurred at the Arts and Technical Vocational College in Yixing, Jiangsu province.
The culprit was a 21-year-old student who was supposed to finish his education this year, but failed to pass his exams. “He returned to school to vent his anger and committed the murder,” AFP news agency quoted a police statement as saying.
As a result of this attack, eight people were killed and 17 injured. The man was arrested and pleaded guilty. Chinese police said emergency services were “fully deployed” to treat the injured and provide further medical care.
China. Successive attacks and large number of victims
Knife attacks are not uncommon in China, according to AFP news agency. Possession of firearms is strictly regulated in this country.
The agency also cited several other examples of attacks in China. Earlier this week, a 62-year-old man plowed his car into a crowd at the Zhuhai Air Expo, killing 35 people and injuring more than 40.
In October, an attacker attacked passersby with a knife inside a supermarket in Shanghai, killing three people and injuring 15 others.
