Chinese medical authorities are sounding the alarm. Metapneumovirus (hMPV) infections are rapidly increasing, especially among children under 14 and residents of northern China, reports the website of the British daily The Independent.
There were reports that hospitals were overloaded, and videos posted on social media showed scenes reminiscent of the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, the portal said.
However, the Chinese government has downplayed these reports, pointing out that the increase in the number of infected people is a winter-specific phenomenon. Symptoms of infection include high fever, cough, and sore throat. In some cases, it may progress to bronchitis or pneumonia.

Indian portal site Ndtv noted that China’s neighboring countries are closely monitoring the situation. Several cases of hMPV have been reported in Hong Kong, and health authorities say there is no increase in respiratory illnesses in India.
In Iran, medical authorities have declared there is no reason for concern, and the World Health Organization (WHO) has said it does not believe the rising number of cases requires special treatment, according to the Tehran Times website. Ta.
Information about the disease caused by the hMPV virus was released five years after the world first learned that the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 had originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan.
