Remember when Kendall Jenner struggled to cut a cucumber on Keeping Up With the Kardashians? (Seeing is believing.) It was great PR for the humble vegetable that's traditionally known for its high moisture content and its affinity for salads. As if getting the Kendall stamp of approval wasn't enough, now the cucumber (Cucumis sativus) is getting even more airtime, thanks to a guy on TikTok named Logan.
With millions of views on his cucumber salad videos, Rogan has not only garnered a loyal fanbase on TikTok, but also has “viral cucumber salad” trending on Google. Proudly declaring “cucumbers are a lifestyle,” Rogan has created easy one-pot cucumber recipes that look and taste better than you'd imagine, including a kimchi blend and his “signature” salmon, cream cheese, and cucumber.

After noticing that my friend and fellow journalist Lucy Partington was a fan and had been sharing her own version of his recipe on Instagram, I asked her what she thought about the trend. “I know cucumber salad is already really popular in Asian cuisine, but I love the engaging way that Logan explains how to make it,” she says. “It's super easy, healthy and a nice change from your usual salad. Cucumbers are cheap and tasty, and you don't need to spend a ton of money on ingredients to try this recipe – I have most of the cucumbers in my cupboard at home. Plus, it's innovative to cook and eat a jarred dish – you literally shake the jar and make it.”
Health benefits of cucumber
Cucumber salads are all the rage at the moment, but the vegetable has loads of general health benefits. “It's a 'water-eating' beauty food that nourishes the gut,” agrees naturopathic nutritionist Jessica Shand. “Perhaps because of its delicate flavour and the fact that it's a somewhat old-fashioned salad staple, it doesn't get the recognition it deserves, but it's a really great cleansing beauty food to add to your summer diet.”
Nutritionally, cucumbers are 95 percent water, making them highly hydrating and great for all aspects of health, including skin. “Cucumbers are a great food for hydration, but they also have the added benefit of containing soluble fiber which nourishes the digestive tract, flushes toxins, prevents constipation and reduces the acidity of your gut flora,” she says.
