The 90-meter-high tower of the closed heating station disappeared from the landscape of Czestochowa. The nearly 100-year-old structure, which has become almost a symbol of the city for many, was blown up on Saturday morning.
Leon Budzic, the head of the Kama company, which is responsible for the demolition of the chimney, told TVN24 that the preparation for this operation took several months. Explosive documents, i.e. demolition project, had to be drawn up.
– We had security, we received support from the services. Regarding the preparation of the chimney for demolition, the work began on November 5, and consisted of the installation of dumping and breaking of reservoirs, blast holes and removal of auxiliary breaks. And the last element, which consisted of loading holes, connecting them to the network and implementing security measures. And what you finally saw – the explosion of explosives – said Leon Budzic in front of the TVN24 camera.
He added that a total of 28 kilograms of Ergodin 31E explosives and electric detonators of 148 milliseconds were used to destroy the chimney.

Almost 100 years of chimney history
The head of the Czechoslovak historical document center Juliusz Setovsky reminded that the history of chimneys dates back to the 20s. – 1926, when the Moca i Światło company with Belgian capital, located in Brussels, bought the rights to the area and indeed to the power stations located in the city. Because there used to be an old power station here, on Olshtynska Street, here, near here. And they started building a new power station.

The 90-meter high bridge was built in 1929. As it turned out, without the permission of the executive committee of the city of Chesh-tochova. – This company built only one chimney without informing the municipal authorities and without obtaining a permit. But it was already built, so the chimney continued. And it has remained so for 95 years, – said Julius Setowski on TVN24.
The power station also provided electricity to the district through high-voltage poles. Electricity was provided to Radomsko, Belchatov and Piotrkov. The station worked until 1963, and in 1968 it turned into a thermal and electric plant.
