Donald Trump stands his ground, insists he didn’t attack Elle columnist
Appeals were of no avail. A federal court has upheld the finding that President-elect Donald Trump is guilty of harassment and defamation of journalist E. Jean Carroll. This means Republican lawmakers preparing to return to the White House will have to pay billions of dollars in restitution to women.
Judges on the New York Court of Appeals in Manhattan ruled unanimously that Donald Trump had failed to prove that a lower court erred in an earlier ruling.

“Based on the totality of the evidence and the strength of Mr. Carroll’s case, we do not believe that the district court’s alleged errors in the evidence ruling affected Mr. Trump’s substantive rights.”
President Trump charged with harassment, new verdict handed down
Elle magazine columnist E. Jean Carroll testified in court last year that 28 years ago, President Trump dragged her into a dressing room at Bergdorf Goodman, a luxury New York department store, and turned a friendly meeting into a brutal attack. He testified that it was alleged that
Carroll first made these accusations public in a book he published in 2019. President Trump has repeatedly denied that such an event occurred.

In May 2023, a jury found Trump guilty of assault and defamation and ordered Carroll to pay $5 million in damages. But about six months later, a court awarded Carroll an additional $83.3 million in defamation damages following a separate lawsuit over Trump’s past comments.
