The German Interior Ministry has announced that Thomas Haldenwang is no longer the head of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution. He announced his participation in the Bundestag elections. He was released with immediate effect.
A few days ago, the German media reported that the head of the German intelligence service, Thomas Haldenwang, informed the head of the Ministry of the Interior about his intention to participate in the parliamentary elections. Now he wants to run for the seat on behalf of the opposition Christian Democrats.
Nancy Fazer has already informed members of the internal affairs committee that Haldenwang has been relieved of her duties as head of the Office of Constitutional Protection.

Waiting for the new head of German intelligence
Thomas Haldenwang will lead the BfV from 2018. Nancy Pfizer praised his work, noting that he led the BfV at a time of increased threats from Islamic terrorism, Russian aggression and extremism on the right and left.
Faeser has not yet provided information about the new head of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution. “This raises the question of whether it still makes sense to appoint a successor shortly before the scheduled Bundestag elections,” Spiegel wrote.
For the time being, German intelligence is headed by two deputy heads of the BFF: Silke Willems and Sinan Selen.
