Germany is no longer the leader of the country most frequently chosen by immigrants
Germany has stopped being chosen most frequently by immigrants in European states. For the first time in years, our Western neighbors lost their leader’s chair in a ranking of the number of asylum applications submitted. Nowadays, newcomers from Venezuela, Afghanistan and Syria are more willing to choose two other European Union countries than before.
Berlin’s newspaper Welt Am Sonntag announced that Germany is not the first leader in years, in terms of asylum applications submitted by immigrants. At the same time, she mentioned previously unpublished data from the Union of Asylum Authority (EUAA).

The latest European Commission report, delivered by German journalists, shows that France is at the top of the list of European countries in terms of the number of applications submitted. In the first quarter of this year, exactly 40 871 were placed there. 39 Spanish with 318 conclusions is second.

The Germans who have led the aforementioned classification path to this day have lost popularity and are now closing the podium in the most attractive aspects of immigration. “The number of protection applications for the first quarter of 2025 fell 41% compared to the same period last year, representing 37,387 applications,” says Suddeutsche Zeitung.

Reports say the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s regime had a major impact on this. Syrians submitted applications of 54% than their first three months last year. The smallest newcomers focus on countries implementing “hard transition policies.” I’m talking about Hungary and Slovakia. 22 people apply for asylum in a country controlled by Viktor Orban in southern Poland -37.
According to the report, most people who want to protect in the EU, Switzerland and Norway came from Venezuela (25 375), Afghanistan (21 524) and Syria (15 138). A total of 210,641 people submitted their applications in the first quarter. Some of the applicants are Ukraine, China, India, Colombia and Turkey.
