Information regarding damage to Russian cables was received by the department on December 27th. This was given to the Finnish media by Kali Krem’s Ministry operations director. The cable connects St. Petersburg and the Chlorewiek district.
The sender emphasized that the Baltic cable currently being repaired by the Russians crosses the Estonian Finnish cable and runs near the C-Lion1 connection between Finland and Germany. At the time, a total of four data transmission cables were damaged, and the Estlink 2’s power connection is suspected. It is about 100 km section over sea. The tankers, as envisaged, belonged to the Russian Shadow Fleet and achieved a course with St. Petersburg gasoline loads.
Ministry of Economy officials had no position on whether damages to the cables between Finland and Russia were related. Finnish police also did not comment on whether the Eagle S floating under the Cook Islands flag could also damage Russian cables.

The Baltika cable, which belongs to Rostekom, is approximately 1,000 km long, of which approximately 380 km runs through Finland’s exclusive economic zone. Finnish authorities have given the Russians permission to repair cables. The damaged part is in Finland’s affiliation. Depending on weather conditions, it is expected that repairs may take approximately a week.

Baltik Cable Repair
The Baltica cable was repaired by the Russians in November 2023 with the consent of the Finnish Ministry of Economy.
