The 87-year-old wanted to increase his savings by investing in foreign currencies. After contacting a consultant, he installed the app on his phone. As it turned out, he gave criminals access to his bank account. He lost half a million zlotys.
An 87-year-old man from Gdańsk, Oliva, who became a victim of cyber fraud, reported to the police. – In early October, while browsing the Internet, he came across an ad that caught his attention. This proposal encouraged investment in foreign currency. He promised that all you had to do was call the phone number listed in the ad, Asp said. The 87-year-old man did the same. During the conversation with the consultant, he transferred the first amount of 1000 PLN to his account. Immediately, at his invitation, he installed an application on his phone that allowed the criminals to access the remote account.
The victim did not know that from that moment he had no control over his account.
He wanted to take his money, but the adviser delayed it
– Fraudsters had it, and on their initiative, the 87-year-old sent other funds to the given account numbers. From time to time he received information about an increase in the amount in the account and did not suspect anything. Especially because, according to the consultant’s promise, he should have earned PLN 800,000 by Christmas, Chrznowski added.
Suspicions only surfaced when he tried to withdraw his money and the adviser delayed sending it to his account. As it turned out, the injured party suffered a loss of 500 thousand PLN. zloty
The police warns: • Do not share your electronic and mobile bank login details with anyone; • Do not share confidential information about your payment cards with anyone; • Do not install additional software, for example, a program that provides remote access to devices that you use to access electronic banking; • Do not enter an unknown account number in your electronic banking, to which the investment profit will be transferred; • If you receive a transfer from an unknown sender, do not send the money under any circumstances, even if your “advisor” asks – you may unknowingly participate in a crime; • Beware of fake programs and company websites that encourage you to invest; • If you suspect that you are a victim of fraud, contact your bank and file a police report; • do not be tempted by the vision of quick profit; • do not make decisions about investing money under the influence of emotions
