The largest Hotpot chain in China, Haidilao, proposed to compensate for more than 4,000 guests who visited one of its Shanghai branches, where two teenagers urinated in their Hotpot broth.
A video of the boys peeing in their broth broth while the dinner in a private room was widely shared online last month. It is not clear that could have filmed the incident.
Police said the 17 -year -old young people at the time were detained shortly after the incident.
There is no suggestion that anyone consumed the affected broth. Haidilao apologized to customers, saying that he has replaced all Hotpot and catering utensils, as well as the disinfection of other items and utensils.
The incident occurred at the end of February, although the management of the company did not discover it until a few days later, after the broadcast of videos on social networks.
Haidilao said that service staff at the time did not prevent adolescents.
It took another week to find out what point of sale was, said the company because it has dozens of points of sale in the city.
Haidilao guests use their own personal Hotpot equipment to cook their food, and the broth are no longer reused for other customers. However, it is not clear in this case if the Hotpot in question has been carefully cleaned and disinfected before being used by the next customer.
“We understand perfectly that the distress caused to our customers by this incident can in no case be offset through, but we will do our best to assume responsibility,” the company said in a press release.
Haidilao said that customers who had dined at the point of sale between February 24 and March 8 will receive a full refund, followed by cash compensation which is 10 times the amount they have been billed.
The company has grown quickly since its first restaurant in Jianyang in Sichuan province. It now operates more than 1,000 restaurants around the world.
Haidilao is known for its customer service and its family atmosphere, where women can receive manicures and children are entitled to candies while waiting for a table.
