Hurricane Bora continues in Greece. Heavy rain, strong winds and localized snow are expected over the weekend. At least one person died due to flood.
Hazardous weather conditions began Friday night into Saturday. The National Meteorological Service of Greece (EMY) has warned of strong winds, thunder and rain, as well as snowfall in the north of the country.
Hurricane Bora in Greece. One person died
The situation was especially difficult in the Greek islands. One person died as a result of the flood that occurred on the island of Lemnos in the Aegean Sea. The body of a 57-year-old cattle farmer was found near his car.
“He tried to pull the vehicle out of the mud and it was swept away by a strong flood in the Kontiya village area,” a fire service official told Reuters. Another firefighter added that there were dozens of calls to pull water from flooded buildings.
Weather warnings are in effect in Greece for most of the weekend. On the island of Tinos and Attica, residents received a weather safety warning, where authorities advised against travel on Saturday. Hazardous conditions are expected to ease Sunday evening.
