The media discussion about President Trump's desire to stabilize the situation in the Middle East began with an interview given to American television CNN by Brian Hook, Trump's former special assistant to Iran. The expert referred to the recent words of Saudi Arabia's foreign affairs chief, who said that normalization of relations with Israel is not possible without the establishment of a Palestinian state.
Recalling the Trump administration's 2020 peace plan, Hook said, “Many of the proposals are still valid.” He added that the proposal includes all the conditions required by Riyadh to normalize relations with Israel.
However, Hook acknowledged that there is currently a lack of “mood” to discuss a two-state solution (assuming the existence of a Palestinian state) following the Oct. 7 attack on Israel by the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas. “Right now, many Israelis are focused on other things, especially on protecting themselves from the terrorist attacks they experienced on October 7,” he said.
Donald Trump returns to the White House. New details about influential officials
CNN reported Wednesday, citing three sources familiar with the matter, that Hook will join the new Trump administration during his second term in the White House. Hook will lead the Trump administration's transition team (the “Transition Team”) at the U.S. State Department, the agency said.
Let's remember. Trump's peace plan envisaged that Israel would keep all settlements in the West Bank controlled by Tel Aviv and provide Palestinians with roads to the rest of the state. This strategy was quickly rejected by the Palestinian Authority, and Netanyahu himself accepted it with reservations. The Republican proposal was also rejected by Prime Minister Netanyahu's current coalition partners, who support Israeli settlements in the West Bank, on the grounds that it includes a potential Palestinian state.
