A walking platform has been built above Rome's Trevi Fountain, from where you'll get a close-up look at the famous baroque statue. This is the next stage of maintenance work on this site. Once completed, the authorities intend to introduce a small fee to join the platform.
Since the beginning of October, the Roman Trevi Fountain, which is considered the most beautiful in the world, has been practically inaccessible to tourists due to the works done there. After draining the water, it was fenced off with transparent panels, which disappointed thousands of tourists from around the world who want to see one of the symbols of the Eternal City up close.
What is also surprising and outrageous – the Roman media points out – is the placement of a small pool in front of the statue where tourists can throw a coin as a symbolic gesture, according to tradition, guaranteeing their return to Rome.

Meanwhile, on Friday, the construction of the “bridge” over the fountain was completed, from which it can be seen and – now experimentally – a limit on the number of people allowed on the platform will be introduced. After the renovation of the fountain is completed, the authorities plan to leave the platform and introduce a small entrance fee.

All works on the Trevi Fountain will continue until December so that it will be ready before the beginning of the Holy Year. On this occasion, about 30 million pilgrims and tourists are expected in Rome next year.
