NEW ORLEANS, LA, August 20, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ — Jamarcus Garrett has been featured in Marquis Who's Who. As with all Marquis Who's Who biographical books, the individuals profiled are chosen based on their current reference value. Factors such as status, notable achievements, name recognition, and prominence in the field are all considered in the selection process.
Garrett has over 10 years of experience in the information technology sector, most recently through his work with Hancock Whitney Bank, a bank holding company with extensive operations in the American South. Based in the bank's New Orleans branch, Garrett serves as Assistant Vice President and Head of Operational Risk Management, specializing in technology, cybersecurity, privacy, risk management and compliance. In this capacity, he advises multiple business units and the enterprise risk management group, and serves as a subject matter expert to executive management, working to strengthen and streamline risk management frameworks and ensure compliance with industry guidelines. Since 2022, Garrett has fruitfully collaborated with various departments to reduce organizational risk, and in 2023 was recognized as a NOLA Tech 30 recipient by NOLAvate Black, a career guidance service for black professionals in New Orleans.
Prior to joining Hancock Whitney, Garrett worked as a business, information technology and information security professional across multiple industries in the private and federal government. He began his career as an e-learning course developer at the University of South Alabama (USA) and worked as a learning management system administrator, computer technician, technical service clerk and webmaster for various departments and programs in the US from 2013 to 2017. He then served as an IT consultant for CGI, assistant manager of IT and gate operations for APM Terminals, senior technical analyst supervisor for Jackson Hospital, federal contractor and senior systems administrator for the US Department of Veterans Affairs. He also led technology and risk management consulting initiatives for local, state and small businesses at CEB Consulting Solutions LLC. He left his last position in 2022 and subsequently joined Hancock Whitney.
Garrett earned his Associate's degree from Wallace Community College and his Bachelor of Science degree from Columbia Southern University, studying Business Administration and Information Technology. Highly qualified in his field, Garrett holds a number of important certifications in the field, including Certified Risk and Compliance Management Professional and Certified Information Systems Risk and Compliance Professional from the International Association of Risk and Compliance Professionals (IARCP), as well as certification in ransomware prevention from the International Compliance Institute and in cybersecurity from the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC2).
To stay current on trends in the field, Mr. GatTett maintains membership in several relevant organizations, including IARCP, ISC2, American Bankers Association, and the Risk Management Association. He has also been appointed as a member of the Advisory Board for the SANS Institute's Cybersecurity Leadership Summit. Outside of professional considerations, Mr. GatTett's active participation in community service such as career fairs, mentoring programs, and internships reflects his passion for helping young professionals come into their own in the fields of technology and cybersecurity.
Garrett attributes his success to the guidance and support he has received from various mentors throughout his career, including his mother, whose passion for learning greatly influenced his commitment to continued learning. A strong believer in giving back, Garrett plans to continue his dedication as a mentor, giving back and encouraging the professional growth of those who follow in his footsteps.
In the future, he hopes to hold a C-level position and hopefully start a non-profit organization that will further support his community service efforts, as well as generate the resources needed to help children whose parents cannot provide for an education or general healthcare, including providing food, clothing and other necessities to those less fortunate.
