The Moscow Times writes about the Kremlin's “headache” after a successful attack by Ukrainian drones in the Republic of Dagestan. It is one of the autonomous regions of the Russian state and is located on the border with Georgia.
The distance that drones cover is amazing. The target of the attack was the city of Kaspyysk, located 1,500 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. Kiev decided to destroy enemy ships anchored in Caspian ports.
Ukrainian intelligence services reported that two targets were affected on November 6th. These are warships: Tatarstan and Dagestan.
War in Ukraine. Kiev attacks Russian port
Moscow was greatly surprised by the scale of the enemy's attack. Apparently, the Russians did not take seriously the announcement of Ukraine's military intelligence chief Kirillo Budanov. This showed that the domestically produced drone could have a range of up to 1,800km.
Russian war bloggers pointed out the poor response system. At the time of the shelling, neither the civil defense system nor the Ministry of Emergencies' announcements were operational.
Photos and recordings of the Ukraine attack quickly spread on the Internet. This happened despite the appeals of Dagestan's leaders.
Dagestan. Troublesome areas for the Kremlin
Dagestan is a region where President Vladimir Putin can't sleep at night. Protests are frequent there, with people taking to the streets due to lack of water and electricity.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin is keen to send Dagestanis to the ongoing war in Ukraine. The region clearly leads the way in mortality statistics. As a result, the population revolts against the subsequent mobilization.
Therefore, the Ukrainian attack has a second meaning and could lead to the strengthening of anti-Russian sentiment within the autonomous republic.
