The investigators of the District Prosecutor's Office of the city of Kielce were engaged in the possible abuse of the Central Board of the Prison Service and the Rzeszow Prison. This applies to the abuse of rights within the framework of the “Work for prisoners” program, as well as the lease agreements of production halls. Daniel Prokopowicz, the spokesman of the Kels district prosecutor's office, announced that the investigation was focused on allegations of excessive authority and negligence in the implementation of the “Work for prisoners” program and issues related to the rental of production halls in the Rzeszów prison building in the period from January 2020 to August 2024.

This case concerns the lease of two production halls in the building of the Rzeszów prison, which was built as part of the “Work for prisoners” program for more than PLN 35 million. The program, financed by state funds, provides for the use of halls for the employment of inmates by individual entrepreneurs. The preliminary investigation will last up to 30 days, after which a decision will be made to initiate the investigation.

The notice of suspected crimes was submitted by the Director General of the Prison Service, which requested the removal of the prosecution department from the Rzeszów region by the National Prosecutor's Office. The case was then sent to the Krakow Regional Prosecutor's Office, which assigned the Kielce District Prosecutor's Office to handle it.
“The Regional Prosecutor's Office in Kraków informs that the notification of the Director General of the Prison Service about the possibility of committing crimes, which include going beyond the powers and failing to fulfill the obligations of the officials of the Central Directorate of the Prison Service, the District Inspectorate. The Prison Service in Rezów and the Rezów Prison and the notice of the president of the established company was sent by the National Prosecutor's Office, for further processing, it was sent to the Kielce District Prosecutor's Office,” we read in the announcement.

The materials related to the case were transferred to the Kelse department on November 13, 2024, and the prosecutor assigned to the case is currently analyzing the collected documents.
The Kielce Prosecutor's Office also received a second warning submitted by the president of the relevant company. The report mentions suspicion of a crime in connection with the notification of the Director General of the Prison Service. In the coming days, the Prosecutor's Office of the Kielce district will appoint a relevant department that will handle the second trial.
