Sixteen KFC restaurants in the Orlando, Florida, area may look a little different from the rest of their locations. That's because the chain announced today that it's testing a new “KFC Original” prototype with a streamlined menu, new technology and a new design.
The restaurants will be serving KFC's signature menu items as well as new Original Recipe Tenders, dipping sauces and frozen drinks. Classic and Spicy Twister Wraps will also be available, featuring two chicken tenders, lettuce, diced tomatoes and KFC's pepper mayonnaise or spicy sauce. Other changes at the restaurants include:
Digital menu boards make it easier for customers to navigate. These already exist in other locations, but are absent from the majority of the system. Digital ordering kiosks make it easier for customers to order Upgraded kitchen technology, such as kitchen display systems that improve accuracy New décor: Updated interior design elements, including KFC original window art, “Stay Original” branding throughout the interior, Colonel-inspired dining chairs and updated artwork New uniforms: Updated visors, aprons and “Stay Original” shirts inspired by the team members themselves. New songs: Playing in-store and in the drive-thru Improved drive-thru experience: An updated, streamlined drive-thru experience with easy-to-read menu boards
The company said that many restaurants began making the switch earlier this summer and have seen a 30% increase in service speed, a 60% increase in order accuracy, and a 41% increase in customer satisfaction.
“We listened to our customers and heard what they love about KFC: the unmistakable taste of our hot, fresh, Original Recipe fried chicken, cooked with a touch of modern Southern hospitality,” President Tarun Lal said in a statement. “These technology upgrades make our team members' jobs easier and enable them to serve the best fried chicken and best service to our customers. Our streamlined specialty menu and the latest restaurant technology will enhance the experience for our team members and our customers.”
