President Vladimir Putin wants to repel Ukrainian aggression in Russia’s Kursk region. He decided that a trusted general, Deputy Defense Minister Yunus Bieka Yevkurov, should go to the front. The military man was tasked with organizing defense in a sensitive area.
The Telegraph reported that Russia has dispatched a senior military official to the Kursk region. Yunus Vieka Yevkurov, described by the media as “Vladimir Putin’s trusted general,” will organize and oversee the Russian Federation’s defense in the region against new Ukrainian attacks.

The decision came after Kiev announced the resumption of the “counterattack,” and Yevkurov assumed duty “several hours” after the start of the intensified exercises. The military officer mentioned served as Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia for six years.
Next, from 2008 to 2019, he served as president of the Republic of Ingushetia, an autonomous republic that is part of Russia. While in this position, he faced an attempt on his life but survived.

Ukraine is seeking to maintain control over parts of Kursk Oblast in order to be in a stronger position in future peace negotiations with Moscow. Kiev’s military chief of staff reported on Tuesday that Ukrainians had repelled 94 attacks in the past 24 hours in the same region of Russia. This accounted for almost half of the collisions across the front during the day.
